Back to the real world

The best part of my last week was spent in Argentina's beautiful Lake District.  Here I had to say good bye to the Andes as I doubt I will ever be back here again; maybe I will get down to southern Patagonia at some stage and see some icebergs, but it won't  be soon.  I spent a lot of time alone in these last few days as all the "youngsters" travelling with me decided they had had enough of mountains and outdoor life and headed off to Buenos Aires instead.  I would settle for the magnificence of the mountains any day over the draw of city lights!

The youngsters were also keen to avoid a 22 hour coach journey from Bariloche to Buenos Aires, but it was not so bad .... I have come to quite like this form of travel ... the seats recline fully and are surprisingly comfortable.  They even give you reasonable food.  Best of all, the scenery for the first three or four hours was  24 was amazing.

My 14 week trip ended with a day in bustling Buenos Aires with its many areas and artistic street markets.  It was good to meet up with fellow travellers again and share a bottle of Argentinian wine, but I didn't try to "see/do" Buenos Aires as there was not enough time to do it justice.  I will just have to get to a Tango show some other time ... I'm sure there'll be a good one in London at some stage.  I did get to see Evita's pink palace though (or is it Madonna's?).

So I ended up back at an airport.  I wonder if my "selfie" skills have improved?  Perhaps not .... those eyes still look a bit odd somehow!

P.S.  If you are interested in the answer to my question in the previous blog, Nat West did honour the new exchange rate.  I got nearly 20 pesos to the pound; 2 days earlier it would have been 13.  What a difference a day or two makes!
